Bring some Edwardian elegance into your home with this wonderfully evocative drinks cabinet

This beautifully stylish Edwardian cocktail cabinet with its ball and claw feet is finished with a beautiful burr walnut veneer. It was manufactured around a century ago, at the start of the Edwardian era, when life for the rich and powerful was becoming much more relaxed.

Before the outbreak of the first world war, the Edwardian era was a time of parties, balls, and social calendars. Basically, having a jolly good time. And what better way to have a good time than to throw a pre-theatre cocktail party at home, with this gorgeous piece at the centre of the action?

Cocktails were becoming ever popular in the early 1900s, with Gin at the centre of many. A very fashionable tipple of the day was the “Aviator”, made with various vermouths, Dubbonet and, of course, Gin. For that reason and beautiful amber colour of the drink, we’ve nicknamed this cabinet Aviator.

The cabinet retains the original cocktail pins and lemon juice squeezer which are all in working order. The base of the cabinet has two doors which open from the centre, giving enough storage for around 70 bottles.

The rise and fall top, with mirrored work surface, will make mixing, shaking, and stirring those cocktails an absolute breeze. Four ball and claw feet, add to the elegance of this piece and give it a hint of the beautiful Orient.

Fun fact: ball and claw feet were hugely popular in the Edwardian period. They originate from China and represent a dragon claw holding a crystal ball.

Bringing this cocktail cabinet back to life with your colour scheme is going to be an absolute pleasure and I look forward, very much, to working with you.

Art Deco and Chinoiserie Style

This style of design is well over a century old and, whilst other styles have come and gone, Art Deco has never really gone out of fashion. The bold lines, symmetry and ornamental design make it a brilliant foundation to base any room design on.

Chinoiserie made a huge come back during the Art Deco period . It is characterised by  romanticised, theatrical and playful perceptions of life in the Far East.

Chinoiserie adds a level of softness and femininity to an Art Deco design, with its calming colour palette and exotic scenes. The ball and claw feet and curved nature of the Aviator drinks cabinet would really lend themselves to a Chinoiserie design.

Adding an Art Deco Chinoiserie cocktail cabinet to a dining room or lounge will give it an instant 1920’s feel. Beautiful, eye-catching, practical, functional, but always bang on trend.

Edwardian Cocktail Cabinet - Designed to order

What I love most about my work is giving vintage pieces of furniture a new lease of life in the Art Deco style. “The Aviator” is available as a commission, or put more simply, “designed to order”.

The inside has already has a stunning makeover. Working together, but guided by you and your specifications, we will transform this gorgeous cabinet into an eye-catching piece that matches you, your style, and your design theme, perfectly.

This could be as simple as restoring the beautiful burr walnut and painting the body in a single colour with a few gold highlights.  Or we could also go  for a complete makeover with an Art Deco inspired geometrics.

The result will be something totally unique and individual….a piece that you will treasure for many years to come.

If you're renovating your room in the Art Deco style or simply need a fabulous centrepiece to wow your friends at parties, the Aviator is the perfect choice.
