Enjoy some after eight indulgence with this Harris Lebus Drinks Cabinet

This stunning drinks cabinet brings 1950s nostalgia and effortless 21st-century styling to your home

Originally a tallboy cabinet from the Harris Lebus Utility range, this gorgeous piece has been restyled into a beautiful drinks cabinet that would grace any modern home.

In short, everything you need to mix your favourite cocktails – just add a cocktail shaker and gin!

The gorgeous tones of the main body painted in Park Bench and the copper interior, are so reminiscent of an autumnal morning, you can almost hear the leaves crunching under your feet.  And the distinctive handles, thought to have been based on the scarab beetle, just add to its elegance and charm.

It is an understated, but eye-catching cabinet that will sit beautifully in your dining room, sitting room or family room.

Grand Designs Live

Designed specifically for the House of Upcyling stand at Grand Designs Live, this Harris Lebus Drinks Cabinet has a real feeling of “Rustic contemporary”, the perfect balance of natural materials, clean lines and contemporary finishes for your home.

It pairs well with other mid-century pieces from my shop such as Nathan Furniture and Stag Minstrel

The drinks cabinet is available to view at the Grand Design Exhibition, as part of the House of Upcycling stand, at the NEC Birmingham, from 5th - 9th October 2022.

History of Harris Lebus Furniture

As if that isn’t enough, you are also buying a real piece of furniture history, because the history of Harris Lebus is incredibly interesting.

The company was started in the 1840s by Louis Lebus, a cabinetmaker from Germany who set up premises in Hull.

By the late 1850s, Louis moved the company to London and was joined by his two sons.

The company was a huge success.  In 1899 it was the biggest furniture manufacturer in England and remained so until the onset of the first world war when they swapped furniture for munitions box production.

After the Great War, many more people had homes and money to spend on them.  The domestic furniture market really took off and we saw wonderful examples like the Arts and Crafts Movement, and the huge influence of Art Deco.  An influence that is as loved today as it was iconic in its time.  It truly was the heyday for iconic brands like Harris Lebus.

The second world war again saw Harris Lebus pitching in with the war effort, specifically, they helped build various parts of planes.

Sadly, after the war, and various disastrous management decision, the company slowly fell into decline until it was eventually split up and sold.

But, what Harris Lebus and its pioneering immigrant cabinet makers have left us with, is a beautiful range of unfussy, oak furniture that has been wonderfully crafted and built to last a lifetime, (or two). Furniture to is as relevant today as it was then, perhaps even more so, given this is

upcycled, beautifully reimagined, sustainable and ethical.
